Leighton Dominates Houck Memorial at Adams County
By Anthony Ainslie
6/3/23

Bill Leighton Jr. returned to victory lane Saturday as he put on a clinic at the Ray Houck Memorial Late Model Showdown at Adams County Speedway.
The big half-mile at the Adams County Fairgrounds was the sight of round 6 of the 2023 season for the Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series. The race was the first of 3 nights the speedway will host the series during the year.
Tad Pospisil started the night by taking the top qualifier position as he put down a 20.226 lap. The night’s two heat races were dominated by the Zeitner family as Corey won the first, and Justin won the second.
When feature time came, it was Bill Leighton Jr. who was on the pole for the 25-lap finale with Dylan Sillman starting on the outside of the front row. Leighton quickly jumped to the lead on the opening lap and proceeded to run the top shelf to perfection.
Meanwhile, Sillman traded slide jobs with Charlie McKenna as the duo swapped the second spot back and forth.
Jay Burdic brought out both of the race’s yellow flags as he spun out in turn four on lap four and then again in turn three with only five laps to go. He would finish 15th in the final order.
At the front of the pack, it was Leighton who took all 25 laps for himself and captured his second win of the 2023 season. It was also his 21st career win with the Malvern Bank West Series and his first at the Adams County Speedway.
Dylan Sillman recorded his best finish of the season with a second place while Justin Zeitner powered his way to third. Charlie McKenna would fade to the fourth finishing position, and Tad Pospisil rounded out the top five.
The Malvern Bank West Series will be back in action on Sunday, June 11th when the tour heads to the Stuart International Speedway in Stuart, Iowa. But the night before, the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series returns to racing action on the 10th with the tour’s first of 2 visits to the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa.
