Zeitner Breaks Six Year Drought with McCool Junction Victory
By Anthony Ainslie

Another new name was added to the winners list with the Malvern Bank West series as the tour took to the high banks of Junction Motor Speedway Saturday night.
Round nine of the 2020 season saw the series’ return to McCool Junction, Nebraska’s three eighths mile oval. Normally the tour makes three visits to the track, but after rescheduling and the speedway being shut down four three months because of Covid-19, the tour was in action for one night at the track. A field of 23 cars made the trip out to Junction.
In the 25-lap main event, Rookie of the Year contender Dylan Schmer took the opening lead. The Aurora, Nebraska driver led until the caution came out on lap four for a two-car wreck in turn two.
A lap following the restart, Justin Zeitner took over the top spot and proceeded to try and run away. Zeitner led while defending series champion Kyle Berck worked his way up to the second spot. Zeitner ran the top side of the race track and occasionally jumped the cushion in turn four which allowed Berck to pulled right up the back of Zeitner’s car. However, Zeitner was just as quick to make up the ground and pull away off turn two.
The caution came out again with 14 laps to go for a three-car incident. On the ensuing restart, Zeitner got a big run off turn two to extend his advantage. Berck did everything he could, but Zeitner kept ahead and took the $2,000 paycheck after 25 laps. Zeitner scored his fourth career Malvern Bank Series win and his first since winning at Lakeside Speedway back in October of 2014, a 98-race drought over six years.
Berck would have to settle for second while Ben Schaller took third. Points leader Tad Pospisil finished fourth, and pole sitter Brian Kosiski rounded out the top five.
The Malvern Bank West Series will take the next two weekends off before getting back to action on August 29th at the Off-Road Speedway in Norfolk, Nebraska. Meanwhile, the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series returns to racing with a three-race weekend August 14th through the 16th. The 14th and 15th will be a doubleheader at the Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa followed up with a visit to The Bullring at Rock Island County Fairgrounds in East Moline, Illinois on the 16th.
