Dumpert leads Flag to Flag for first Malvern Bank Series win in Albion
By Anthony Ainslie

A Boone County Raceway regular scored his biggest career win in the Malvern Bank West Series’ return to action Sunday night.
The Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series returned to action after two weekends off. Round four of the 2020 season was on at the Boone County Raceway in Albion, Nebraska. A stout field of 36 late models made the trip to the high-banked third-mile at the Boone County Fairgrounds for the series’ tenth ever visit to the track.
Defending Boone County Raceway late model track champion Cory Dumpert started the 25-lap main event from the pole position. Dumpert pulled in front of Josh Leonard for the early lead and showed the way as the first of two cautions came out for a car against the backstretch wall on lap eight.
Dumpert jumped back to the lead on the restart while Bill Leighton Jr. pulled ahead of Leonard for second right before the caution came out for the final time for a spin in turn three.
The race stayed clean and green from that point on, and Dumpert continued to run away with the show while Leighton and Leonard dueled it out for the second spot. While that went on, a pair of weekly racers at Boone County, Chase Osborn and Greg Krohn, worked their ways into the top five at the tail end of the race.
When the dust settled, Dumpert, the defending track champion and defending IMCA late model co-national champion, took the big $2,000 check capturing his first ever Malvern Bank Series feature win. Dumpert becomes the fifth different series winner in ten races at the Boone County Raceway and the 33rd different winner all-time with the Malvern Bank/Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking series.
Josh Leonard and Bill Leighton Jr. finished second and third while Chase Osborn took fourth, and Greg Krohn scores his career best finish with the series coming from 18th to round out the top five.
The Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series returns to action on Saturday, July 18th as the tour heads to the Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, Iowa. After that, the West Series meets back up with the East as they kick off the tenth annual Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 22nd.
