Berck goes Wire to Wire for Nebraska Cup Victory at Eagle
By Anthony Ainslie
9/8/19

The Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series returned to action for a special Sunday showdown at Eagle Raceway for the track’s annual Nebraska Cup.
Eagle marked the 19th race of the 2019 season for the tour, and it was the third to last race of the year and second to last points paying race. A strong field of 30 cars made the trip out for the tour’s fifth ever visit to the high-banked bullring in Eagle, Nebraska.
Point leader Kyle Berck wasted no time jumping from the pole position to the race lead, and that was where the defending series champion spent the entire race. Jason O’Brien ran second after starting in the second spot.
As the race progressed, a five car battle for the fourth spot ensued. Andrew Kosiski, Ben Schaller, Corey Zeitner, Tad Pospisil, and Jake Neal all went at it swapping positions in the final ten laps of the race.
When it was all said and done, the race went 25 caution-free laps, the third caution-free feature of the season and the first since the tour’s debut at Stuart International Speedway back on June 5th. Berck took the win, his fourth win at Eagle Raceway in five visits with the Series, his fifth win of 2019, and his record 88th career Malvern Bank Series main event victory.
Jason O’Brien took second while Brian Kosiski recorded his third top five finish with a third place run. Last week’s winner Corey Zeitner finished fourth, and Jake Neal beat out Tad Pospisil at the line to round out the top five. It was Neal’s first start with the series in 2019.
Only two races remain on the schedule for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series. The next stop is the second annual Midwest Mobile Tech 22 at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on September 14. It is an invite-only race with a giant $4,000 check going to the winner. Then, the series wraps of the season back at the home track, the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska. For the first time since 2014, the tour will finish the year on the final night of the Speedway Motors Cornhusker Classic.
