Droud Survives to Repeat at Junction
By Anthony Ainslie

Don Droud Jr. prevailed in an action-packed Saturday night with the Malvern Bank 360 Sprint Car Series as the tour visited Junction Motor Speedway.
The high-banked 3/8 mile oval in McCool Junction was the sight for the second race of the 2024 season for the Series. Drivers from Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Colorado made the trip for a chance at a $2,000 payday.
Defending Series Champion Stu Snyder and 2023 Rookie of the Year Chase Brown were the two heat race winners on the night. Snyder would be the one to sit on the pole for the 20-lap main event with Rookie of the Year candidate Dominic White on the outside.
Right from the beginning, Snyder charged to the lead and was looking to run away with the show. However, a caution at the halfway mark for a slow car on the back stretch bunched the field back up.
On the ensuing restart, Don Droud Jr. began sizing up Snyder for a potential pass for the lead. With seven laps to go, Droud took a shot for the lead in turns three and four, but Snyder fended him off. However, with six laps left, Droud tried the move again. This time, he and Snyder made contact. The two continued on with the race as Snyder kept the lead.
The night came to a halt for Snyder as his left-rear tire went flat just one lap after the previous contact. Snyder would surrender the lead to Droud.
With five laps to go, Droud had a new challenge in the form of Missouri native, Chase Porter. The 24-year-old tried his hardest to pass Droud on the outside of turns three and four, but on the final lap, Droud put his car right where he needed to to defend the charge from Porter.
With that, Droud survived a wild night at Junction Motor Speedway as he picked up his second career Malvern Bank Series win and his second in a row at McCool Junction. Chase Porter had to settle for second while Jack Dover came in third. Chase Brown battled back from an early set back to finish fourth, and Dominic White rounded out the top five.
Two more stops in the Nebraska are left in the month of June for the Malvern Bank 360 Sprint Car Series. The next stop on the tour is June 9th as the tour makes its debut at Lexington’s Dawson County Raceway. The Series will then head over to the high-banked Boone County Raceway in Albion on June 28th.
