Sprintcar racing can't survive long, when the winning purse won't pay the tire bill !!!!!

Try being a hobbystock team. Or any lower class for that matter

If you are in it to pay the bills, you are in the wrong level of the sport. May I suggest you find a NASCAR Sprint Cup Team to drive for.

"Sprintcar racing can't survive long, when the winning purse won't pay the tire bill"

Saw my first race at Eagle raceway back in 1989, went to the pits that night and heard the same thing.

Been going ever since. will keep going til the place closes, but I think it will out live me.

I don't think you're going to get much sympathy on here when it comes to purse amounts.

sprint13fPosted on 5/9/2012 11:56:14 AM

you want it dry and smooth or heavy and rough?

hangloose

vern twinklemeyerPosted on 5/9/2012 12:51:56 PM

Dry and smooth any time!!!

sprintwizard23sPosted on 5/9/2012 1:06:54 PM

nope probably won't get sympathy here, most of the posters here can barely raise the money to pay the yearly subscription fee to post their drivel, let alone try to field a car in any of the classes let alone the the "support" I mean sprint class. Still hoping that they figure out the problems......

If I didn't know any better............

Heavy and rough.

Its not the purse or the price of the tires,no sprint track should take rubber with 14 laps to go in the race.

VoiceOfTheSpeedwayPosted on 5/9/2012 7:44:50 PM

Same thing happened on ASCS night one at I-80 w/ half as many cars and without the weather (Wolfgang survived the battle w/ Lasoski and Brown taking each other out fighting for the rubber).....Don't really have an answer on Saturdays, but heard they started watering at 8am Saturday morning.....could have something to do with the Sun beating down and 20 mph winds between hotlaps and first heat race green flag (approx 25 minutes, that's why the first Sport Mod heat could get a hold of anything...from the second heat on it was fine until the end)......have to admit, it's nice not seeing cars flipping and tearing up equipment because of ruts and holes.....let's see what this Saturday brings.

So many races...so little time.

BlueBoysPosted on 5/9/2012 9:29:52 PM

When the track is sealed over as much as Eagle is no amount of water will help. No one likes ruts and holes but if you are a sprint car driver you'll figure out how to get through them without losing equipment.

A-J racingPosted on 5/10/2012 7:59:00 AM

If I remember correctly Tony Stewart said in an interview that he searched around and found some rubber which allowed him to shoot to the front. So as you said BlueBoys, if you're a sprint car driver (or any race car driver) you'll figure it out. Weather it's tacky, slick, smooth, rough, or rubbered down, make adjustments like the rest of the "drivers" do.

BlueBoysPosted on 5/10/2012 9:47:04 AM

If I had Tony's money I'd look for the rubber also,I don't think the 1,200 for a new set of tires will bother Tony.

13f crewPosted on 5/10/2012 6:34:29 PM

Pro's and con's with both conditions.

Tacky- fast, HARD,.... on all parts in every class, gets rutty & rough and has the most wrecks & damage because of it. HP wins.

Dry- slower, it can a dust storm, a lot EASIER,.... on parts , if you spin you can recover. Makes it more of a drivers track.

Most people don't understand how mother nature conditions the track. The sun and wind will change the track through out the race. If you watch & listen to NASCAR and NHRA etc.,from qualifying, to practice then race day, the weather changes the pavement/concrete surface many,.... times through out the event. Within a few minutes, a corner can go from sun to shade and completely change the racing from slick to sticky.

So, just think what it does to dirt/clay !

Take it easy on the track crew guys, it's very difficult to prepare a track for perfect racing conditions, especially with the number of cars and class's that Eagle brings every weekend.

Wrestlingcoach22Posted on 5/11/2012 3:46:57 AM

I don't know how you can fault the crew at Eagle. Not many tracks in the midwest can attract as many cars as Eagle. That alone says they must be doing something right, if not they would struggle to field an entire show, but for having five classes they are doing a great job. Keep it smooth no matter what!

sprintcar3Posted on 5/14/2012 10:37:19 AM

George and Larry have done an excellent job getting the holes out of the Race track, It can be fixed to not have holes and not take rubber, (never used too)except maybe when outlaws were in town, What ever happened to packing the track? we haven't had to do this since the holey or rubber ridled tracks. I have never claimed to know how to fix it, But minus the last five or so years, we had none of these problems. They said the water trucks were broke last week. maybe thats it? I remember one person who watered 3-4 times a week. I understand that costs money. but so does rubbered down tracks, best bet would be to figure it out quikly cause the car count is going to dwindle, just like when the holes were tearing them up!
The holes only tear up one or two cars a night, But rubber cost everyone! which is very true.

JesusfreakPosted on 5/14/2012 10:43:53 AM

You can always run another track!!

froggie1BPosted on 5/14/2012 1:48:26 PM

Here is part of the problem with the rubber on the track!! The sprints use an Awsome Hoosier tire that lays rubber down on the track cause why??? Its a real rubber tire. A synthetic tire is a 50/50 blend which would not put down as much rubber!! But then you would have to change to an American racer spec tire!!! How about running the sprints A feature 1st once in a while!!! jmo

froggie1BPosted on 5/14/2012 1:57:57 PM

oh yeah and American racer tires are Cheaper to!!! just saying!!! plus they wanted to help out with $$$$$ point fund money etc etc...

tom jrPosted on 5/14/2012 2:04:12 PM

Here's the deal they could run the sprints first but most of the crowd would leave so thats not going to happen that would make the track lose to much money in concessions so you would think they would try to fix this rubbered down problem before they lose the sprints you lose them you lose the crowd!

sprint 95Posted on 5/14/2012 2:19:14 PM

Can't get more cars to race here when your gonna spend more on tires than what the feature pays to win.

Ryan TunksPosted on 5/14/2012 4:44:20 PM

Tom Jr. is absolutely right. I would be one of the guys heading towards the gate when the Sprint's checkered flies.

But what's wrong with that? The track already has my admission money and I am done going to the concession stand at Feature time. So who cares who leaves after we pay.

sprintcar3Posted on 5/14/2012 4:48:55 PM

Froggie1b, to start with I could really give a rats ass what tire they run I don't have to pay for them. and at one time I have ran American racers also known as MCCreary and they will rubber down also, at this point it is a matter of not using up a set of tires a feature, no matter what the cost is. So the savings would be worth using up a set of tires in an A Feature. Come on pull your head out!
