It's official! Little Sunset Speedway has been accepted as a WKA Master Track!

We've been working hard on this project since early December in Reno, NV at the Promoter's Workshops and thanks to the hard work of all of those involved we were finally successful in obtaining WKA sanctioning for our track and weekly racing program as well as obtaining a Heartland Dirt Series Race scheduled for July 28th thru the 30th. There's too much info to include in this brief news alert but I'll be happy to answer any of your questions via email.

I'll have a draft set of track rules and a tentative 2006 schedule at the Bellevue swap meet on January 21st and I'll also try to get everything posted on the web site by the close of business on Monday, January 23rd. WKA will also be issuing a 2006 Heartland Dirt Series Supplement that, according to Uncle Frank's, will allow most everyone to compete and make a smooth transition to WKA rules as they did in 2004 and 2005. The Blue Wazooms WILL be a part of our weekly racing program as a track option class.

We'll also be announcing the addition of an exciting new class of Kage Karts that will feature sealed spec. engines with an engine claim, spec. tires, spec. clutch and spec. header to make it more affordable to get into and stay in karting at any age. There'll be a Rookie, Junior and Senior class.

In other news, there will be many changes taking place at LSS before our first scheduled event including reconfiguring the track, moving the scale and tech area with a new exit off the track in turn 3. I cannot take reserved parking spots until we have the complete layout done and the available parking areas determined. Those that had a reserved spot last season will have first choice of spots for 2006. I'm now accepting number registrations starting with the swap meet in Bellevue and we'll have a registration form online on Monday.

A brief glimpse of our schedule to the start the season follows:

April 21 Practice/Play Day - Test N Tune for all classes

April 28 Non-points race for all classes final tune-up for championship season

May 5 Opening Night for 2006 Season Points

And finally, I wish to thank Ron and Linda Kern for their dedication and hard work last season. Due to family commitments and a house renovation project, Ron and Linda will not be able to dedicate the time required to officiate at the track on a weekly basis. THANK YOU Ron and Linda!

We'll be lining up our staff for the races very soon and my hope is that many of our officials from last season will return. I'll be contacting everyone in the coming week. If you know of anyone wishing to work the races at Little Sunset please have them email me or you can email me with their contact information and what they'd like to do. ([email protected])

Thanks for your patience!

tom, congratulations on the wka sanctioning. hopefully the reconfiguration will make it more racier, the racers that will showing up for the heartland dirt series is a tough bunch, arguaby the best in the heartland/midwest (assuming the regulars from past years are there).

We're also pleased to announce that we've just been granted an IKF Briggs and Stratton Midwest Speedway Tour race scheduled for May 13th and 14th. Complete details will be available as soon as the information is available from IKF.
