"Degreeing in" a camshaft is a critical step in route to optimum engine performance.
With this information about your camshaft, you're insuring the valve opening and closing events are in accordance with the cam specs, regardless of the cause. These events are influenced not only by the manufacturers' accuracy, but timing chain stretch, crank or camshaft sprocket accuracy, cam dowel pin hole position, and the keyway position in the crankshaft.
