Hi Everyone - this is Kathy - the current typist for Dave. Lots of people have been asking how Dave is doing, so wanted to post an update. As some of you have heard Dave was in a recent wreck at I-80 Speedway and broke his arm. His radius bone in left arm was totally shattered at the wrist and had several long diagonal fractures running most the length of the bone up towards the elbow. The ulna bone was badly dislocated at the wrist joint with ligament/tendon damage. He had surgery Tues, July 10th which took 2 1/2 hours. Was a pretty complex procedure, including installing a long plate along the bone and will be a long road to recovery. For the first couple days afterwards Dave said it felt like the knife was still in his arm. But the pain level has now become tolerable. He has not been able to fix the car yet. He sure misses being at the races with everyone. Hopes to be back soon (to watch, won't be able to race for awhile). He had not missed a point race since 1993. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and hope to see you soon!
Have a GREAT day |

sp21, I was actually trying to look at the bright side of all of this and thinking that at least I could maybe get caught up on some other things while I'm not racing, but then I quickly realized that everything (especially typing) takes 10 times as long with one hand! |

We've had several ask to see Dave's "after" pictures. We got these x-rays yesterday showing the plate (with 12 screws) and scar (22 stitches). Dr. Bozarth did a great job assembling all the pieces back together! He is an arm specialist and has operated on many broken arms/wrists over the years and said Dave's was one of the worst he has ever seen and one of the longest plates he has ever had to use. Doc said he WILL set off the airport metal detectors! These are not the type of racing records Dave set out to accomplish!
And by the way, no, Dave is not morphing into a goat. The white "fur" on his arm is the fuzz from the padding that was under the temp cast.

Have a GREAT day |
