Subject: July 13th weekend | | Posted by | Message | | R & R Racing | Posted on 7/16/2012 1:29:59 PM
The action at Nebraska race tracks was as hot as the weather the last few weeks as area racers once again took to the road the weekend of July 13th. Jordan Grabouski and Lance Borgman, who won their A Features in the IMCA modified and IMCA stock car classes respectively at Beatrice, traveled to RPM Speedway at Hayes, Kansas on Saturday. They each took home 2nd place finishes in their A Features.
Thunderhill Speedway at Mayetta, Kansas announced a stock car bonus last week. A new winner in the IMCA stock car class who hasn’t won at Thunderhill in 2012 will take home extra money. Each week the bonus is not collected, more money will be added. If the bonus is collected, it will start all over.
The bonus was not collected this week as Kyle Vanover took the checkers once again. However, Jim Powell gave him some competition as he stayed close but could not make a pass and get the win. Greg Deters finished 3rd and Eric Weyer was 7th. In the sport compact division, Scott Spellmeier took the win with Ronda Mewes in 2nd and Kaylee Diekman taking 4th. On a side note, it’s great to see that Kaylee is back in action after her crash at Beatrice last week!
The sport mod A Feature saw Travis Runcie jump into the lead from his front row starting spot and hold it until a late race caution put Dusty Leonard on his back bumper. When the green flew, Leonard was able to take the lead away from Runcie and go on to take the win. The win was the result of some long hours in the shop after having the rear suspension damaged at Beatrice on Friday evening. Kyle Olberding finished 8th.
Ryan Roschewski also made the long haul to Thunderhill but his luck turned sour before he was able to even run his heat race. Ryan’s car developed engine trouble in hot laps and rather than take a chance of damaging the engine any more, his crew loaded the car. Unfortunately, that’s racing!!
Darin Racek sat out Friday night at Beatrice in order to be more prepared for Saturday night’s races at North Platte. In looking at results, I see that Darin got a 5th place finish at North Platte and a 9th at Lexington on Sunday. Most Beatrice fans don’t know Darin, but before he began racing he announced races for 16 years at Lexington, McCook, North Platte, Doniphan, Norton and Wakeeney, Kansas and Red Cloud. Because of his long drive from Lexington, Darin usually leaves Beatrice soon after the stock car A Feature is over. If anybody runs across Darin some night before, during or after the races, be sure to thank him for racing at Beatrice Speedway on Friday nights.
Eighteen drivers who make Beatrice Speedway their Friday night home made the trek to Eagle Raceway on Saturday, July 14th. In the sport mod class, it appeared that Shelly Andersen won her 2nd A Feature in less than a month at Eagle. However, an infraction was found on her car during tech inspection and she was disqualified. That gave the win to Josh Blumer, with Gary Saathoff finishing 6th and Joey Danley in 8th. Mary Lenz was 9th in the B Feature while Don Rinke was 12th.
Shelly has been consistent this year. It’s tough to have a DQ once you work so hard to do well, but with the team she has around her, I predict more wins for her in the near future.
Speaking of consistency, sport compact points leader Nick Lindblad took home a 5th place finish in his A Feature. Nick currently holds a 10 point lead over 2nd place.
Adam Armstrong followed his Dad Roy to Eagle for the 2nd week in a row. Last week Adam took the A Feature over point leader Roy. This week, Roy had to come through the B Feature to make the A Feature. Roy started 17th in the A Feature and finished 8th, two spots ahead of Adam’s 10th place finish.
In the IMCA modified class, Chris Alcorn took home the A Feature win over current point leader Dylan Smith. From what I gathered from Facebook postings, Smith beat John Saathoff for the 2nd spot by inches. Chad Anderson was 5th while Tim Ward came from 21st to finish 6th. Bob Zoubek was 8th, with Shane Hiatt 12th, Mike Densberger 14th and Jared Deterding 20th.
The forecast for the upcoming weekend is once again for hot weather. I am guessing the action at Beatrice Speedway will be just as hot as the drivers do battle in their respective classes. Drivers and fans alike, don’t let the hot weather keep you away from some of the best racing in the Midwest. We look forward to seeing you Friday night at Beatrice Speedway!
