Aikey scores big in Malvern Bank/Hoker Trucking Series’ debut at Hamilton County
By Anthony Ainslie

The Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series had their second clash of the week as the tours took to the Historic Half-Mile Hamilton County Speedway.
After three previously scheduled tries going back to last year, the speedway in Webster City, Iowa finally got their first Malvern Bank/Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking series event in. The fans were treated to a 37-car field. At the end of the night, 26 would make the start for the 30-lap main event.
Defending series champion Kyle Berck had a wreck in his heat race resulting in a DNF. The crew repaired the car and missed the B feature and had to take a series provisional to start the main event.
Jake Neal took the lead on the opening lap of the feature, but that would be the only lap he’d lead as Jeff Aikey took over the lead and tried to pull away shortly before a pileup ensued in turns three and four blocking off the corner and bringing out the red flag.
On the lap-five restart, Neal spun out and slammed into the outside wall in turn one. Neal was okay but was out of the race finishing 23rd.
When racing resumed, Aikey ran away with the show while Tad Pospisil and Bill Leighton Jr. traded the second spot back and forth. Both drivers came off first and second place finishes the previous night at Stuart International Speedway.
A slow car in turn two on the final lap brought the first of two green-white-checkered finishes. On the restart, a spin in turn two brought the yellow flag again. Aikey nailed the restart for the final time and pulled away from the rest of the field and secured his second career Malvern Bank/Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking feature win on a track he has had success in other late model events.
Tad Pospisil and Bill Leighton Jr. rounded out the podium positions while Josh Leonard took fourth, and Andy Eckrich finished the top five.
The Malvern Bank West Series finishes out the week on Friday the 12th with the tour’s first visit to the series’ home track, I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska. Meanwhile, the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series will have the weekend off and will gear up for a three-day swing through eastern Iowa and Illinois on June 19-21.
