Marrant pulls Shocker in Malvern Bank’s first feature of 2020
By Anthony Ainslie

The Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series crowned a first-time feature winner in the series’ first feature of the 2020 season.
After the previous Sunday’s race at Stuart Speedway in Stuart, Iowa was rained out, the west tour hosted its opening round during their first trip to the Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri.
A field of 26 cars made the trip to Warrensburg for the $2,000 pay check. In the opening laps of the 30-lap main event, Bill Leighton Jr. and Tad Pospisil swapped the lead back and forth after both made up the front row.
Cautions were a challenge in the first ten laps as three quick ones came out for spins. After the field settled into a grove, Leighton commanded the field up front as Pospisil ran in second, and Jake Neal and Jason O’Brien went at it for fourth.
With 12 laps remaining in the race, Richmond, Missouri native Aaron Marrant made the go-ahead pass for the lead on Leighton as the field were weaving through lapped traffic. Leighton and Marrant dueled it out with lapped cars being one and two lanes wide throughout the closing circuits.
A pileup on the front stretch took out sixth place running Jason O’Brien and set up a green-white-checkered finish with Marrant leading the way. On the restart, Marrant nailed his marks, and while Leighton tried a big charge going into turn three for the final time, it was not enough.
The former Central Missouri Speedway Track Champion Marrant took the checkered flag and made history as the first Missouri driver to win a Malvern Bank Series race. It was also Marrant’s first night of racing in his new Capital race car. He also became the 32nd different winner in the history of the Malvern Bank tour and the third different winner in three races the tour has ever held in the state of Missouri.
Leighton finished second while Tad Pospisil took third. Defending Series Champion Kyle Berck came from tenth to finish fourth, and Jake Neal rounded out the top five.
As of now, the Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series plans to return to action on Tuesday, June 9th at the Stuart Speedway in Stuart, Iowa. This race will also be the first race of the season for the Haulin with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models East Series.

Isn't Tuesday June 9th at Marshalltown, Iowa, which is not affiliated with this series, then Stuart, Iowa on the 10th, and Webster City the 11th?
