Bronson Dominates Silver Dollar Nationals Finale for first Crown Jewel Victory. Grabowski completes Modified Sweep
By Anthony Ainslie
7/24/21

The Five-day week of racing at I-80 Speedway culminated Saturday with the finale to the 11th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals.
A pair of B-mains and a non-qualifiers race helped set up the remaining positions for the late model main event starting lineup. Meanwhile, the modifieds had their second complete show to finish out the week.
For the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, it was New Mexicoís Stormy Scott who brought the 30-car field to the green flag for the start of the 80-lap feature. However, outside front row start Chase Junghans grabbed the early race lead. The Manhattan, Kansas driver would stay out front for the majority of the race fending off a hard-charging Kyle Bronson.
Only two cautions came out during the feature, both for two drivers with mechanical failures. First, two-time Silver Dollar Nationals Winner Jonathan Davenport went out early with engine failure 22 laps into the race, and just ten laps later, fellow Georgia driver Shane Clanton went down with issues.
Junghans continued to lead the way with Bronson hot on his tail. With just 33 laps remaining in the race, Bronson made the go-ahead move for the lead, and from there, the driver out of Brandon, Florida road the high side of the track to perfection and dodged getting bottled up by lapped traffic.
Bronson led the final 33 laps of the race to score the $53,000 grand prize. It was Bronsonís first Silver Dollar Nationals victory of his career and his first Crown Jewel feature win. Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Point Leader Tim McCreadie took second finishing a whopping 10.492 seconds behind Bronson, making it the widest margin of victory in the history of the race. Bronsonís fellow Floridian, Earl Pearson Jr. finished third, his career best finish at I-80 Speedway. 2013 Silver Dollar Nationals Winner Jimmy Owens came in fourth, and Chase Junghans fell from leading over half the race to round out the top five, his best career finish at the Nationals.
Saturdayís 25-lap modified main event saw former Silver Dollar Nationals modified winner Terry Phillips lead the e first eight laps of the race before his teammate Jordan Grabowski got around him as they came off turn four. From there Grabowski ran away with the show while Phillips ran a distant second.
That would be how they finished the feature. Grabowski completed the weekend sweep taking $7,000 for winning both races. Phillips took second while defending I-80 Speedway Track Champion Jacob Hobscheidt put in an impressive third-place finish. Shane DeVolder and Dylan Sillman rounded out the top five.
