Martin Wins Thriller in Stuart
By Anthony Ainslie
6/4/23

The Malvern Bank 360 Sprint Car Series saw its fourth different winner of the year in the tour’s first ever trip to Stuart International Speedway Sunday night.
The quarter-mile bullring in Stuart, Iowa was the sight of round 6 for the Malvern Bank 360 Sprint Car Series. It was also the very first time winged sprint cars ever turned competitive laps on the speedway. A field of 19 cars made the trip out to Stuart for a chance at victory.
The brothers Cam and Chris Martin won the first two heat races on the night while Cody Ledger won the third. When everyone was restacked for the 25-lap main event, Cam Martin sat on pole position with John Klabunde on the outside.
Klabunde was quick to capitalize on his starting spot and jumped to the lead early. The Fort Calhoun, Nebraska racer showed the way up front before the first of 2 red flags came out on lap six as Austin Miller flipped in turn one. He was uninjured following the wreck.
The second red flag had more major race implications as Klabunde went up and over in almost the exact same spot that Miller wrecked. Klabunde would climb out of his car, but his chances of victory were gone.
When racing resumed, Jason Martin was the leader for the majority of the race, but in the closing laps, Chris Martin, no relation to Jason, challenged for the race lead. As the duo went into turn one with only three laps remaining, Chris through the go-ahead slide job for the lead, and from that point, the Ankeny, Iowa driver ran off to score his first Malvern Bank 360 Series victory. The win made him the fourth different winner in the first six races with the tour.
Jason Martin had to settle for second while Stu Snyder came in third. Don Droud Jr. made a strong charge through the field finishing fourth after starting 11th, and Cody Ledger finished out the top five.
The Malvern Bank 360 Sprint Car Series now gears up for round 7 which will see the tour take on the Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, South Dakota on June 12th. Then, the tour heads to the Sunflower State as the tour has a big Independence Day weekend showdown on the historic Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas.
