Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals two months away

It's been a wet racing season so far and with a little more than two months until the Lucas Oil/MLRA sanctioned Third Annual Silver Dollar Nationals. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has already had cancellations or postponements in Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Kentucky. A point battle seems to be shaping in the series between two-time and defending series champion Jimmy Owens and 2011 Silver Dollar National Champion Don O'Neal. Of course, John Blankenship, Earl Pearson, Jr., and Steve Francis are not that far back.

On the Midwest Late Model Racing Association side of the ledger, Will Vaught sets atop the leader board after five events in 2013. Brad Looney, Terry Phillips, defending series champion John Anderson and Jesse Stovall round out the top five. The MLRA opened their season with two nights of racing at I-80's Spring Meltdown.

The big question is , who will be hot on July 20 when its time to run SDNIII for $27,000 to win. Will it be a series regular from the Lucas Oil or MLRA? Or will it be someone else like last year, when Brian Birkhofer went to victory lane.

Then there's the Modifieds of the USMTS, they will be running complete programs on both July 19 and 20 as part of the Central Region. So far it's been the Scott Family dominating Central Region action with Johnny Scott currently leading and Stormy Scott in third place. Sandwiched in between the Scott's is Jeremy Payne and right behind Stormy is former series champion Jason Hughes.

Things kicks off at the Silver Dollar Nationals on Thursday, July 18 with a great night of racing featuring the SLMR Dirt Series/Championship Dirt Motorsports Challenge, Nebraska 360 Sprint Cars and B Mods plus open practice for both the Super Late Models and the USMTS Modifieds.

One thing is for sure with the best Dirt Late Models in the country and the best Modifieds in country in the house, the Silver Dollar Nationals should once again be a real crowd pleaser!

The Late Model tire rule for the SDN will be as follows; Right Rear: Hoosier WRS 55 or L06 only, Left Rear: Hoosier WRS 55 or 1640 only, Front: Hoosier WRS 55's only.
