WOW! MLRA and NCRA Late Models VS ASCS Sprints. Should be an interesting race!!

I'd rather see Ken Schrader, Al Jardine and Dean Torrance at Eagle Sunday night. Promises to be a better show. |

Then go there instead. Me I want to see late models and I-80 will be the place to be. |

I may be a product of the 60's, but I am going to I-80 on Friday, and nowhere on Sunday.

Many thanks to Eagle for scheduling a Sunday night show right against I80. The track to the south needs to learn to work with area tracks. |
| bruton | Posted on 9/1/2010 8:43:17 AM
lap mis-counter Both tracks do a pathetic job of working with each other. I have commented before on how it hurts fans and it also hurts the bottom line of each track. When a priority becomes screwing over another promoter I think the promoters need to take a hard look at the situation. I am not talking about just Eagle, I am not talking about just I-80, I am talking about both of them.

If everyone remembers at the start of the year Craig Kelly mediated some agreements between both tracks, but when Football starts the Team in Lincoln rules Saturday so everyone moves to Sunday. I was at Dry-80 last Sunday and I know they had a show Saturday night but hire an overnight crew and water the track. It was blowing dust in Hot Laps. And if that is the normal Sunday night crowd they have more to worry about than Eagle.

I agree the tracks need to work together. But late models and sprints together on friday. I will be at NRP. How much will MY pit pass cost me? Anybody know? Gonna hate to miss the JET show at beatrice but my 2 favorite classes at one track wins my money. Sorry Johnny!!!!! |

I believe that Eagle conceded the season opening weekend of Apr 17 (Saturday) to I-80, both tracks have run all year on different nights up to this point... This is labor Day weekend and any business that operates primarily on week ends has to have an income generating day of some sort this weekend. Trying to draw a crowd on Husker opening day would be a fools business strategy... I do not believe Eagle's decision has anything to do with I-80's schedule. It is about what day they have the best chance of drawing a crowd and paying the bills as they try to wrap up the final two weeks of there BUSINESS season. Being closed for BUSINESS is also a fools strategy, so unfortunately the alternative is be open the same day as the competition... Just like any other BUSINESS would be.

Look at what each track offers and goes from there. I see I80 offering more on sunday, Eagle's show is a just a regular weekly show with some Music, but they will lose all the quality of Mods from Eagle that are running for points at I80 plus the purse of $1500 and a trophy dash of $1000 to win, Ill go watch me some good mod racing and Ill watch me some state championship races at beatrice courtesy of Jet. |

funny how there was whatg seemed like non stop advertising all of last week on the radio, and maybe i think i even remember seeing a commercial on tv at some point for that daredevil show thing, yet, other than a few posts on here and other internet sites, at least to my knowledge, i havent seen or heard a word from the trakc about promoting tonites show. guess if there isnt a band playing or money being offered to girls in bikini's, real racing programs, like tonites, for example, simply arent important enough to take the time and to make the effort to do that same type of media advertising. really makes me scratch my head.
regardless, i'll still be there, never want to miss a chance to see sprints and super late models on the same card at nrp.

spin im goin out on a limb and saying that the daredevil show paid for the adversiting. thinkin it was a package deal. but ive been wrong at least a half a dozen times today. |
| spincycle | Posted on 9/3/2010 11:20:56 PM
for the many that missed it, tonites races were excellent, the track was awesome, grooves all the way from the bottom to just a few feet off the walls, slide jobs galore in both classes, all kinds of passing and close finishes. brian brown won the sprints after criss crossing the corners several times with chad humston, terry phillips won the late models after a furious late race charge by john anderson fell a few car lengths short, phillips and anderson also criss crossed the corners a couple times. didnt see it to know for sure, but kelly boen spun out on one of the few attempts to get lap one in, he then bounced off the walls a few times, passed about half the field, but then retired from the race with unknown mechanical issues.
overall, the racing got an A+, the crowd support got a D-, though maybe that was partially to do with the absence of any kind of media advertising in the past days leading up to the show.......................who knows.........

Gotta agree with spin, track couldn't have been more perfect for some excellent racing tonight!
Looked like something broke in the suspension on Boen's car when he pulled off. Likely caused from his contact from the previous caution he caused when he came from the top to drive all the way across the 02 car to the bottom, resulting in the hard damaging impacts for the 02, 9, and 89 cars. I'm trying to think if I've ever seen an entire night of racing when Boen is present that he doesn't wreck at least one car? I'm surprised the other drivers haven't taken the problem into their own hands more than they have. The sanctioning bodies don't ever seem to do anything to discourage it. Didn't even get sent to the back for causing that bad wreck. Maybe some fans enjoy that type of racing. This fan sure doesn't. It's sad that someone that fast and talented has to run over everyone.
I have to give huge credit to John Anderson. When he made his pass for the lead with just a couple laps to go, you could clearly see he really pinched his car down to keep from sliding up into Phillips' lane. He didn't realize that he didn't have to do that because he had him cleared by a mile, but he still did it even though his resulting front end push out of the corner cost him the lead and ultimately the win. If only Kelly Boen could learn a lesson in driving etiquette and respect for his competitors by that example.

well dave guess you should have been at mccool a few weeks ago then. id rather pay 20 dollars to watch the 07 drive aggressive than pay 2 dollars to watch the 2 car slide job everybody. on a normal nite he would have slide jobbed phillips first chance he had. JMO from previous races |

The track surface and the racing were both excellent. I love it when the promoter only has 2 classes (both premier)running. I was in Lincoln by 10:30.
However, I must agree with the prior posts, the crowd was embarassing. One must wonder if word got out Bruton was going to be in the stands. If so, that may explain some of it. Otherwise, high school football and the Nebraska Championship in BeatRice may have something to do with the diminished crowd size.

It was a high school football friday and as usual there was no promoting of the event. Also for the most part late model and sprint specials have been a disapppointment this year especially at I-80. I agree two classes was a great move. As hard as it is for everyone to believe fans don't just magicly show up.

racing friday night was good-thought the track looked good and the crowd was not bad- don't think it was a bad night at I-80. I had a great time- |
| QMotorsports | Posted on 9/4/2010 1:19:08 PM
Good car count 35 lm & 23 sprints, cool temp in 60's good feature races with a little controversy to make it interesting, a racing surface that most drivers preferred, and a 1/2 way decent crowd considering the lack of media advertising, cold beer and hot food...what left to complain about??

I tried to push it in my column. But my column did not get printed in Hawkeye this week. Eagle had advertising on The Kat all week for their Sunday show. Jimmy B

pulling a slider is all a matter of (1) car control and (2)knowing when to abort and when to go for it, there were some last nite that knew how to do both, some who pulled off only one of two, and some who did neither. i think anyone who was there could easily name which car #'s (LM's) fit into each category.

I thought slide jobs werent allowed at Nrp has that changed???
I finished 3rd out there 3 times and 6th one and slid in to the lead or tied for it many times in the last few laps but had to leave a lane or be set back as in the past?

Speaking of the 02 car and wrecks, what was the deal with berck rear-ending him on the back stretch during the heat?
