For once in a long while, the buzz you're hearing in the Sunflower State isn't about the Jayhawks basketball team...
In fact, that buzz is now a full fledged roar and it's coming from Kansas City and Kansas Speedway, which will host two NASCAR Sprint Cup races in 2011, including the fourth race in the Chase for the Cup. That puts the Midwest's only major track on par with the likes of Talledega Superspeedway, Texas Motor Speedway, and Daytona International Speedway as tracks with multiple races on the NASCAR schedule -- although we're sure no one will be confusing any of the Kansas races with the Daytona 500 anytime soon.
For many in Kansas and the surrounding area, the schedule change is long overdue. A second race at the speedway fills an enormous void in the Sprint Cup schedule -- a void that Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the rest of the west coast tracks cannot possibly fill -- and expands NASCAR even further into the hearts and minds of millions of fans in the Midwest. It's true that Chicago and Indianapolis have spectalur events respectively, but racing fans from Missouri and Minnesota to Colorado and Utah have gone entirely too long pining away for only one weekend out of the year. Kudos to the people at NASCAR for stepping out on a limb to include a second race at Kansas AND one at Kentucky Speedway as well.
If you want to enjoy all that Kansas Speedway has to offer, but you don't have the time to plan out a whole trip, the folks over at Premiere Sports Travel can take of every last detail for you.
